Meet Our Speaker - Oscar Ruiz
Oscar Ruiz, Management and Program Assistant (Civil Rights), Department of Transportation
Oscar has more than ten years of experience working with diversity and inclusion in Latin America and the United States through non-profit and international organizations. He currently works at the Department of Transportation, Office of Civil Rights, focusing on the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Prior to the Department of Transportation, Oscar helped establish the first Disability Accommodation Fund at the Inter-American Development Bank, created the first disabilities outreach program at the Inter-American Foundation, and conducted grassroots development projects in Latin America.
Oscar is a Juris Doctor from the Pontifical Catholic University in Puerto Rico, and earned his B.A in Political Science from the University of Florida. His work includes several articles on the topic of disability for the journal Grassroots Development, and the research document "Reaching the 'cocobai': Addressing issues related to persons with disabilities in Canadian and multi-donor engagement in Haiti.”
